Goal Realiser - Next Step

The ‘Goal Realiser – Next step’ tool helps you ‘realise’ your goals by putting insights into action. After you have completed the ‘1st step’ in realising your goal, that is understanding your progress and creating your foundation, the next step is to strengthen your foundation and build on it.

Many people get caught up in the ‘drive’ of chasing a goal, moving to action without stopping to reflect. They push forward for the next achievement without stopping to appreciate their progress. Many people think ‘drive’ is a positive; however, when the adrenaline rush kicks in and becomes habitual it can lead us to go into overdrive – which if overdone can ultimately contribute to burnout.

This tool is designed to help you take a breath. When you consider the learning and adjustments you’ve made towards your goal, it can provide insight into changes that can support your ongoing progress. Although you might think it takes longer, investing a little more time to stop, reflect and put your insights into action can ultimately make it feel less effortful to achieve your goals as you build on your learnings.

How to use it

  1. Goal – Start by writing your goal in the first boxes provided. (Note: Each line is dedicated to helping you understand an individual goal). If you’re not sure whether to pursue a specific goal, you might find our ‘Goal Evaluator’ tool useful.

  2. Learning – Consider what you have learnt in your progress to realise your goal. What obstacles have you overcome? What have you learnt from your progress? Would you do anything differently in the future? In a personal context, this might be learning to read a recipe fully before you begin - rather than needing a mid-way trip to the supermarket. In business, this could be implementing a tool to support you to keep track of your receipts and financial records along the way, so that your quarterly reporting feels less overwhelming.

  3. Adjustments – Reflect on the adjustments you have made to achieve your goal. How has what you have learned affected the adjustments? In a business context, this could look like changing an employee’s schedule so that they can balance their work and home life. Personally, this might look like running instead of going to the gym in your goal to increase your fitness.

  4. Next Steps – How will you put your insights into action? How will you integrate this progress into your daily life? Consider ‘what’ your next steps are, ‘who’ these next steps involve, and your timeframe, or ‘when’ you wish to do it. If you are having trouble getting clear on your next steps, or know your goal needs to change to reflect the progress you have made, see our ‘Action Planner’.

Want to take it further?

At Traxiom, we believe it’s important to confirm and fully appreciate our foundation before looking to the next challenge. Appreciate in this sense means both to value the progress, as well as to consolidate it and grow from there. Although the ‘Goal Realiser – Next step’ tool can be used as a personal reflection, we think it’s best used as a conversation starter. If you’d like another perspective, we’d love to support you in taking a deeper look.
