Review with C.A.R.E.
The ‘Review with C.A.R.E.’ tool helps us stop and reflect on our progress and the foundation we’ve set before exploring new opportunities. In doing so, this tool encourages true care - for ourselves and others.
The purpose of this tool is to support people to review their progress in a balanced way. It encourages people to celebrate their achievements and acknowledge the lessons learned before moving to what’s next. This empowers people to make wiser decisions by focusing on their true progress.
Because it’s so common to get caught up in the momentum of our achievements, often people look at the next challenge without considering the foundation they’ve already set. Before automatically focusing on the future, let’s make sure we’re grounded in the present moment and consider our learnings from the past. Starting with the positive by celebrating what’s been achieved and appreciating what’s working gives us a boost of energy. This lift can give us the energy to look at what’s not finished yet, and explore what it might take to make things happen.
Some situations where it might support include when you observe someone is feeling frantic with too much on, frustrated by their lack of progress, feeling lost for words, undervaluing what they’ve done, or fixating on what’s not working. It’s not to judge people when they’re feeling that way. It’s to support them to take a more balanced view by putting things back into perspective. Examples of where it may be used include at a weekly team meeting, a whole-day business session to review the yearly progress, in a staff employee review meeting, or as a personal reflection on the year.
How to use it
Confirm – Start by confirming what’s been done. What have you learned and what progress have you made? What do you feel good about? Celebrating our achievements (including the little wins) confirms our foundation and gives us a positive boost before moving to the next level.
Acknowledge – Appreciate what’s working well. Is your new employee integrating well into the business? Have you started a new exercise regime that’s helping you feel healthier and happier? Building on what’s working is easier than trying to focus and fix everything that’s not working.
Reality Check – Review what’s left. Completion is important; however, as situations change sometimes what was needed before is no longer required. Without judgement, ask yourself ‘why’? Is it still relevant? Is it realistic? If the answer is ‘yes’, then what resources are required? Just because something is on the ‘to-do’ list doesn’t always mean it is still true to do!
Explore – Now we explore what’s next! If you’d like more specific implementation support, check out our ‘Goal Definer’, or ‘Action Planner’ tools to support you to bring your goals to life.
